Islamic Finance
Since the 1970s, Islamic finance has significantly grown creating a globally sophisticated and competitive market. In Turkey, the participation banks have been developing the market since the 1980s in key sectors such as energy, real estate, infrastructure and insurance. These areas have received increased interest from Middle Eastern investors and we are now seeing prominent use of Islamic finance, alongside other financial models, to raise the financing levels required.
We have one of the most experienced teams in Turkey capable of providing legal services to Islamic finance and international institutions, lenders, borrowers, and sponsors with interests in Turkey related to project finance, capital markets and M&A in particular.
Akol has extensive knowledge of a range of Shariah compliant structures including Murabaha, Mudarabah, Istisna’a, Ijara and Sukuk transactions. We have taken an instrumental role in developing a dual tranche structure for Islamic finance to be used in parallel to conventional project financing for infrastructure, an award-winning structure used for several projects including the Project Finance Deal of the Year 2017.
Our team has worked on a number of the high-profile Shariah compliant transactions, applying knowledge and experience to structure Shariah compliant products for transactions ranging from project finance, real estate finance, debt capital markets and asset finance, as well as corporate and structured finance.
